Awesome new advertisement!

Hello beautiful reader!
Ok, so I´m really excited to show this masterpiece of an advertisement "poster" for my blog.I´m planning of posting it on social media so more people can read about this fascinating and real topic. But, I want to know what do you guys think of it.  Is it good? Does it need improvement? Let me know!

Beauty Redefined

Hello beautiful reader!
Since this blog is about disscussing how today´s beauty standard is to accept yourself and be confident, well I´m know that this is not easy to accomplish. I´m still working on achieving this today, but know the importance of being confident and proud of myself has changed my life in the best way possible. So, I found a great organization that can help us be confident and know our self worth. And this awesome organization is called Beauty Redifined.

This organization was created by the doctors and identical twins Lindsay Kite and Lexie Kite. While studying the media they noticed how these images were affecting women. They were fighting and wanting to become something that it was impossible to achieve. They got together and started out a nonprofit organization that aims to educate and make people know how much they´re worth and to realize that they are beautiful and shouldn´t be comparing themselves to the images seen in fashion shows or magazines. With the help of social media and powerful quotes by celebrities, these ladies have conquered the hearts and minds of many women and males. They describe their good deed as: “Beauty Redefined is all about rethinking our ideas of “beautiful” and “healthy” that we’ve likely learned from for-profit media that thrives off female insecurity. Girls and women who feel OK about their bodies (meaning they aren’t “disgusted” with them like more than half of women today) and take better care of themselves.”
The twins Lindsay Kite and Lexie Kite

On these conferences they teach women to reject the effects of the fashion industry and to feel comfortable in their own skin. Also, giving “girl power” motivation making the participants remember that women should be respected and never thrown or pushed around. The ones that give the conferences are the very own creators who give in a humouros way a 60 minutes presentation and helps us understand their message. Now, this whole organization survives on volunteers and donations, indeed it’s nonprofit. In USA, these conferences are a huge success and they have helped much more than a thousand women and teenager to be happy and beautiful just the way they are. Clearly a great representation of today´s view or standard of beauty for society, confidence and self-accepting is beautiful; all you have to do is believe it.

Question about Topic

Hello beautiful reader! So, I presented my topic on my class and the profssor asked me: "How can you stand by the positive impact of today´s beauty standards when people are willing to change all they are to meet the standards set by society?" So here´s is my answer...

I can stand by the positive impact since today´s beauty standards are different than what we know as a “beauty standard”. In the past, Fashion Standard and Beauty Standard were the same time, while now that has, thankfully, changed. It´s a fact that today everyone is telling us to be confident and be happy in our own skin in order to be beautiful. This is proved by social media, the many blogs about this, what professionals are helping us do and the raise of plus size and petite models like Nadia Aboulhosn and Tess Mounter. Another fact is that in the 90´s “beauty campaigns” were held by fashion magazines with models like Kate Moss telling us that we had to look like that. But today many organizations are raising and doing these campaigns and they all have the same conclusion; confidence and self-accepting is the real beauty of society.
When it comes to the movie “The Devil Wears Prada”, it clearly represents what I´m saying. The scene “the interview” it shows that confidence and knowing who you are can get you anywhere. Another scene called “the belts” represents that fashion and beauty is not the same thing. Beauty is what Andy (Anne Hathaway) sees as identical and ugly belts while Miranda (Meryll Streep) represents the fashion that sees the belts as completely different pieces of art. The girl, Andy, represents what society should do and this is shown in the end where she lets herself free and becomes more confident and follows her happiness. So this movie is showing us that we should follow what she did and be confident and self-confident on who you are to be successful and beautiful, a standard.  (Check my last post for more detail)

What´s incredible and positive of today´s standard is that it´s telling us that we shouldn´t change anything. We only have to be proud of ourselves because we´re beautiful just the way we are. It is known that this has helped reduce suicide and eating problems around the world. So I stand by the positive impact of today´s beauty standards because they are telling us to be happy. And if that´s not positive, then no one knows what positive is.

The Devil Wears Prada Presentation

The Devil Wears Prada

My Topic: Today's Beauty Standards are positive for society

Movie Challenged:

Movie Protagonists:

Andy (Anne Hathaway)

Miranda (Meryl Streep)

Arguments:

1. Beauty Standards (Society's point of beautiful) VS Fashion Standard (The art of clothing) (Read my post about this for more information)
*Scene: The belts
*Miranda sees the belts as pieces of art and sees differences between them.
*Andy sees the belts and laugh cause they are identical and useless (calls them "stuff")

2. Confidence is the real beauty standard of today.
*Scene: The Interview
*Miranda doesn't know anything about what she wants to work with but Miranda still hires her.
*She kept confident through the whole interview with gave her the job.
*Example: Girl or boy with confidence will always look pretty for society.
(Actress and model Naomi Grossman)
3. Fashion Standard's designers are still part of society and they know that a girl with confidence (no matter how she looks) is beautiful.
*Scene: The final wave
*Miranda smiles while in the taxi after Andy waved her goodbye.
(After this, Miranda miles and looks excited while in the taxi)
*She was confident and proud of herself and proved Miranda that that's the real beauty.
*Magazines and Celebrities are changing.

Imperfect is the new perfect; believe it!

The Devil Wears Prada

The Devil Wears Prada

We all know this fantastic movie from 2006 and have cheered for Andy (Anne Hathaway) when she decided to free herself from the chains of her boss Miranda (Meryl Streep). What many people don’t know about this movie is that technically this is just a symbol and a calling for women everywhere that fashion is a tool instead of a life. It’s showing us that we should be ourselves no matter what and that’s how you’ll be successful.
Remember on my last post “Beauty Standards VS Fashion Standards”, well this is the same thing. The Beauty Standard (made by society as something to be followed) is to love yourself and be proud of whom you are while the fashion standard (meant to be copies and seen as art) that clothing is everything. Here are some parts of the movie that explains what I’m saying.

The scene where Andy is being interviewed by Miranda is filled with hidden messages. The one I’m going to speak about is that Miranda, even if Andy didn’t know anything about fashion or didn't know who her future boss was or didn’t read the magazine she wanted to work for, hires Andy. She did it because she realized by looking at the journalist that she had potential, was down-to-earth and had confidence. Andy is an example of what the Beauty Standards of today and today’s media are telling us; “be proud of you”. If we look at it, recently many artists in the music industry (who are seen as beauty icons to society) have told us this. Taylor Swift, for example, she was bullied when she was younger and called ugly and untalented. She even told the “M” magazine that, even if she once was hurt, this didn’t stop her because she knew that this wasn’t true. She adds that “confidence is the key to success”. Also, this is why many magazines are totally changing their content. In Sports Illustrated, a magazine known for having unrealistic body and face standards, today they are using plus models to show that “every type of person is beautiful and confidence is sexy”.

Another example is Marc Anthony in the magazine Men's Health. Which was a surprise for many people as this magazine is famous for showing muscular men, and Marc does not have that type of body and still looks good.
Miss Taylor Swift defending her beauty.

Another detail of the movie that shows us that the beauty standards of today are starting to be positive is Andy’s relationship with her friends. When she accepted her image and was proud of whom she was, she had a beautiful relationship with her friends and, even, had a boyfriend. As soon as she gets aware that the “girls are prettier and thinner” or when she turns into the slave of her boss, everything changes. Her friends represent the society and her boss and workmates are the fashion standard. This proves that (and I repeat) for society’s beauty (Beauty Standard) you have to love yourself and be proud of who you are. For this example I will use Demi Lovato, the former Disney Star. When she started in the industry, she suffered from an eating disorder, and was really self-cautious about her job and her image. This brought her problems with her family, especially her dad, and friends. Even if she threw a party with 1,800 people, she said in her documentary Stay Strong that she didn't have any friends. Once she went to rehab for Bulimia and recovered, she also said in the documentary that her relationships with family and friends grew. Now, she’s with her longtime boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, is really close to her family and has been sighted with many friends. I used her as example since she’s a Beauty Icon of today and is an actress, singer and curvy model.

Another example is Ricky Martin. Even if he was seen as "hot" by the mass, people still said he looked wierd and unhappy. After he accepted himself and "came out of the closet", he seems mch hapier and looks a lot better. Isn't curious how you can see the difference between insecurity and confidence.

Last thing I want to speak of the movie is the part where Andy leaves the interview for the journalist job in the newspaper and Andy waves at Miranda, which the lady in the car smiles and tells the driver “Go!” She agrees with the girl’s choice, which is a change for Miranda. At first, people tell her that she never agrees or helps anyone, but she helped Andy with her interview. Which means that the girl by being herself, working hard, and choosing her normal life and being a typical newspaper journalist, gained the lady’s respect because she kept true to herself and accepted herself once more. She knew she wasn't meant to be fashionable and that the glamour is all a fantasy. It all comes to this in the Beauty Standard. In a postmodernist world, where everything is a fantasy; society is realizing that there is no such thing as copies. Everyone is different, and we should embrace that. This is why every type of body is being accepted by the media. The Beauty Standard is to accept yourself. Just check Facebook, Tumblr, Magazines, even in the Television and movies they are telling us this message. That’s why it’s a Beauty Standard; it’s what everyone thinks it’s beautiful or, better said, the message of beauty that people are accepting as their own.

An example of this is the size 22 model that was fought over between modeling companies. Her name is Tess Munster. She’s a “rockability” style model, which is married and has children. She said that before, no one wanted to be her agency. But that didn't stop her so she started a blog that gain popularity overnight. A big portion of the comments were good and people loved her. Then, the agencies called her. Wow, right? Many of them wanted her to be part of their company so they can show what the people wanted, models who are proud of who they are and not self-cautious or insecure about their body.

It doesn't stop there I can write about a lot more stuff that’s happening that show the real beauty standard of today and an unknown change of society that is fantastic and positive. See you on my next post.

Beauty Standard VS Fashion Standard

Hey people! Today, I wanted to write about the differences between "Fashion Standard" and "Beauty Standard".
Doing research on the internet, and by asking friends that are currently models, I found out that there are two types of standards. One is created by the "high-fashion" industry, which is the "Fashion Standard". This one is more strict and is ruled by being able to wear anything that is put on the person. It's more eccentric and "art"-like. The models have to be thin and tall so the designer can make anything they want and she can "look good" in them. They think of the models as copies and when they design, it's not about the size or how she looks, it's what they want to express. Also, the clothing is very expensive and not really meant to be worn.

But, the one this blog is talking about is the "beauty standard" which is the one created by society. This one is ruled by what the society wants. Also, it's less expensive and actually sold for the public. Thankfully, the fashion sold in most of the stores is not rigged by "high fashion". Since society is the one who sets this standard, it's the one that's actually followed by masses and, therefore more popular. Here, the models are whatever the people make famous.

To give an easier or clear example, the fashion standard is more like Lady Gaga (before her anorexia recovery) and the beauty standard is Beyonce or Taylor Swift. This difference is not really known since during the 1970's, it was a little blurred out and since then people have confused the two. Doesn't it make sense? Let's be honest, no one will wear this:

Today, there is a big difference between the two standards. This are the models. The "beauty standard" (BS) models are healthy, meanwhile the "fashion standard" (FS) models are known for having eating disorders (underweight). Thankfully, today both have changed. Now in the BS every type of body is accepted, as long as you're healthy, and they media is says that we should love ourselves. While in the FS, models are not being accepted if they have an eating disorder or are unhealthy. So there is a good change, it's occurring slowly but it's happening.
